Charger Installation in Kansas City: Cost, Process, and How to Get the $500 Rebate

Published August 10, 2026

More EV owners in Kansas City means more homeowners asking the same question: what does it actually cost to charge at home, and what's involved in getting it installed right?

What a Home EV Charger Installation Typically Costs

For a Level 2 home charger, baseline installation runs around $800 when the charger is going in near your electrical panel. That number climbs, typically another $1,000 to $1,500, when the wire run from the panel to the charger location is long.

Permits add to the total too. In the KC area, expect somewhere between $45 and $720, with $297 as a common average.

What Changes the Price

  • Distance from panel to charger. A garage right next to your panel is a simpler job than a detached garage or a driveway on the far side of the house.
  • Panel capacity. Older or smaller panels sometimes need an upgrade before they can safely support a Level 2 charger. If that's the case for your home, our panel upgrade cost guide covers that piece separately.
  • Hardwired charger vs. outlet. A dedicated hardwired charging station is a different scope of work than installing a NEMA outlet for a plug-in unit.
  • Permit and inspection requirements, which vary by municipality within the KC metro.

The Evergy Rebate: What It Actually Covers

Evergy offers a rebate for Level 2 home charger installation to residential customers in both Missouri and Kansas, but the two states structure it differently:

  • Missouri: a flat $500 rebate for installing an approved 240-volt outlet or hardwired charging station.
  • Kansas: $250 for the install alone, or the full $500 if you also enroll in Evergy's Nights & Weekends time-of-use plan. The plan enrollment has to happen before you apply for the rebate, not after.

Both states require applying within 6 months of installation, and both ask for an installation receipt showing your electrician's license number. There's no set end date on either program. They run until that year's funding is used up, so it's worth applying sooner rather than waiting.

Check your state's current terms directly before installing:

Questions on the rebate itself go to Evergy's EV team directly at EVadvisor@evergy.com, not to us. We handle the installation and give you the receipt with our license number on it. Evergy handles the application and payout.

Rebate programs and available funding can change, so confirm current eligibility on Evergy's site before you install rather than assuming last year's terms still apply.

Our Approach

Every installation is done by a licensed master electrician, with a written quote before any work starts. If your panel needs attention first, we'll tell you that upfront, not after the job's underway. The price we quote is the price you pay.

A-Team Electric is a licensed, master-electrician-led shop serving Kansas City, Gladstone, Liberty, Independence, and Lee's Summit. Upfront pricing, same-day service.
